Mylar Bags | 3.5g–448g | Creative Labz
Written by Lia Thompson, packaging specialist at Creative Labz — working with hemp, CBD, and edible brands on packaging strategy since 2019.
We've been designing and shipping pre-printed mylar bags to hemp, CBD, and edible brands since 2019 — and the difference between our bags and what you'll find on bulk overseas sites is immediately obvious when you hold them side by side.
We design every bag in-house, which means you won't find our designs on DHGate, Amazon, or any overseas bulk supplier. Our pre-printed mylar bags come in six sizes from 3.5g to 448g, feature tamper-evident heat-sealable tops, reinforced resealable zippers, and select styles with child-resistant closures. If you're building a hemp, CBD, edible, or botanical brand and want dispensary-quality packaging that actually stands out on a shelf, this is where to start.
Mylar bags are flexible, multi-layer barrier bags built around an aluminum-based film that blocks moisture, air, and light better than standard plastic. They're the packaging industry standard for hemp brands, CBD brands, edible companies, and botanical product lines — commonly called eighth bags, herb bags, smell proof bags, or dispensary bags depending on the industry. Creative Labz carries pre-printed mylar bags in 3.5g (eighth ounce), 28g (one ounce), and 448g (one pound) as our most popular sizes, with 7g, 14g, and 112g also available.
Mylar bags protect your product and your brand at the same time. The barrier film keeps moisture and air out, the resealable zipper gives customers convenience after opening, and the heat-sealable top creates a tamper-evident seal that looks professional and meets most state packaging requirements for hemp and edible products. For new brands especially, pre-printed mylar bags are one of the most cost-effective ways to launch a retail-ready product without a massive upfront investment in fully custom packaging.
Sensitive products are affected by three things — moisture, air, and light. Mylar bags address all three. The metalized barrier layer blocks light that clear jars and plastic bags let straight through. The heat-sealed top creates an airtight closure that slows moisture loss and oxidation. The result is product that stays fresher longer and reaches your customer in better condition. That's why mylar bags have become the standard packaging format across the hemp, CBD, edible, and botanical industries.
We work with hemp flower brands, edible companies, gummy manufacturers, mushroom product lines, and botanical suppliers every week — and the most versatile packaging solution across all of them is consistently the mylar bag.
Mylar bags work for any dry or semi-dry product that benefits from moisture, air, and light protection. The most common uses we see from our customers are hemp flower, pre-rolls, edibles, gummies, chocolates, mushroom products, botanical herbs, spices, supplements, and other dry goods. If it's sensitive to air, light, or humidity and needs to look good on a shelf, a mylar bag is the right call. Our bags are available in 3.5g (eighth ounce), 7g, 14g, 28g (one ounce), 112g (quarter pound), and 448g (one pound) to fit a wide range of product weights and formats.
Yes — when properly sealed. The 3.5g eighth ounce size is our most popular format because it's the standard single-serve size most hemp and botanical brands use. When the zipper is closed and the top is heat sealed, the bag creates a barrier that slows moisture loss and reduces air exchange, directly extending how long your product stays in optimal condition. For products sensitive to humidity, pairing a 3.5g mylar bag with a humidity control pack adds another layer of freshness protection.
Use mylar bags when you need packaging that protects the product, looks professional, and fits your budget. They're the right choice for hemp brands launching their first product line, edible companies that need tamper-evident dispensary bags, and any botanical brand where shelf presence matters. If you're still putting product in generic clear bags or plain kraft pouches, switching to pre-printed mylar bags is one of the fastest ways to look more credible to wholesale buyers and retail customers alike.
Fill the bag with your product, press out excess air, zip the zipper fully closed, then run a heat sealer or hair straightener across the top above the zipper. The tear notches on the sides give your customer a clean opening point. That's the whole process — no special equipment required beyond a basic heat tool, which you can get for under $30. For high-volume operations an impulse sealer speeds things up considerably and gives you a cleaner, more consistent seal every time.
This is one of the most common questions we get from brands launching their first product line — and the answer depends entirely on how well you seal the bag.
When fully sealed — zipper closed and top heat sealed — mylar bags significantly reduce odor compared to standard plastic bags or clear containers. The metalized barrier layer limits air exchange in both directions, which means smells stay in and outside odors stay out. Our pre-printed smell proof bags are popular with hemp flower brands, edible companies, and botanical product lines where odor containment during storage and shipping is important. For best results make sure the zipper is fully closed before heat sealing the top.
Yes. The combination of a closed zipper and a heat-sealed top creates a strong odor-resistant barrier that outperforms standard plastic packaging by a significant margin. As with any packaging, performance depends on a proper seal — a partially closed zipper or incomplete heat seal will reduce effectiveness. When sealed correctly our heavy-duty mylar bags maintain odor containment during storage, handling, and shipping for most hemp, edible, and botanical packaging applications.
Mylar bags contain a metalized barrier layer designed for moisture, air, and light protection. Because of this construction, mylar packaging behaves differently from clear or single-layer plastic materials under certain imaging equipment. The metalized layer exists for barrier performance purposes only. If you need specific material composition or barrier specification details for compliance or shipping purposes, contact us and we'll provide full product specs on request.
Mylar bags are food-safe packaging materials widely used across the edible, supplement, and food industries. For edible brands — gummies, chocolates, baked goods, and infused products — they provide the moisture and light barrier needed to maintain freshness, the tamper-evident features required by most state regulations, and a professional print surface for building brand recognition. Pre-printed edible packaging mylar bags are significantly more cost-effective per unit than rigid packaging at comparable protection levels, making them the preferred choice for brands at every stage of growth.
Two steps. First close the resealable zipper firmly all the way across. Then heat seal the section above the zipper using an impulse sealer or hair straightener on high heat — run it across in one smooth motion, hold for two to three seconds, and let it cool before handling. The tear notches on each side mark where your customer opens the bag. If you're sealing high volumes, a dedicated impulse sealer starting around $30 is worth it — faster, cleaner, and more consistent than a hair tool.
No. Our mylar bags have a built-in resealable zipper and heat-sealable top so you don't need a vacuum sealer. Press out excess air, close the zipper, heat seal the top — done. For retail hemp packaging, edible packaging, and botanical product packaging, this is sufficient to maintain freshness and meet tamper-evident requirements. Vacuum sealing is really only necessary for long-term bulk food preservation where complete oxygen removal is critical.
Our bags are designed to be sealed with a heat sealer rather than a vacuum sealer. The built-in zipper and heat-sealable top make vacuum equipment unnecessary for most retail packaging applications. If you have a specific use case that requires vacuum compatibility, call or text Zack at 843-457-0226 and we'll find the right solution for your situation.
Not all of them — and that distinction matters for compliance. Our catalog clearly marks which styles include child-resistant closures. If you're operating in a state that requires child-resistant packaging for hemp, edible, or botanical products, filter by child-resistant when browsing or contact us and we'll point you to the right options. All bags include tamper-evident features regardless of whether the style is child-resistant. Note that child-resistant is not the same as childproof — no flexible packaging material can make that claim.
Yes. The resealable zipper is built for multiple open-and-close cycles and holds up well to repeated use. Once the heat-sealed top is torn open using the tear notches, that section is single-use — but the zipper below continues to function normally for ongoing storage. Our heavy-duty pre-printed mylar bags are made to last, which is one reason customers in the hemp and edible space appreciate them over cheaper single-use alternatives.
Mylar bags start as a thin polyester film that gets stretched in multiple directions — a process called biaxial orientation — which dramatically increases the material's strength and tear resistance. A metalized layer, typically aluminum, is then bonded to the film to create the barrier properties that make mylar bags effective for herb packaging, edible packaging, and other moisture-sensitive applications. The finished material is converted into bags with resealable zippers, heat-sealable tops, and tear notches added during production. Our bags are produced to consistent specifications so you get the same quality every order.
Mylar bags are multi-layer materials combining polyester film and a metalized barrier layer, which makes them incompatible with most standard curbside recycling programs. Some specialty facilities accept flexible packaging materials — check with your local provider to confirm. Reusing the bags for storage is the most practical option where dedicated recycling isn't available. We're actively monitoring sustainable packaging developments and will expand our eco-friendly options as viable materials become available at the quality level our customers expect.
Yes. Our mylar bags are made from food-grade materials safe for contact with dry goods and are widely used across the food, supplement, hemp, and botanical packaging industries. They don't contain BPA or harmful additives when manufactured to industry standards. Use them as intended for herb packaging, edible packaging, supplement storage, or general dry goods and they're a safe, non-reactive packaging solution.
Right here. Creative Labz carries both pre-printed mylar bags and humidity control packs, and we're one of the few suppliers where the bag designs are created in-house rather than sourced from overseas mass manufacturers. Our designs feature premium finishes including spot UV and foil accents you won't find on generic supplier sites. Order mylar bags and humidity packs together and your dispensary packaging or hemp brand packaging arrives ready to use in one shipment.
We've worked with brands ordering as few as one design and operations ordering tens of thousands of units across multiple SKUs — wholesale pricing is available for both.
Creative Labz offers wholesale mylar bags for hemp brands, CBD companies, edible businesses, and botanical product lines across the country. Contact Zack directly at 843-457-0226 or zack@creativelabz843.com for bulk pricing. We work with brands at every stage — from first launches buying a single design to established operations ordering multiple SKUs at volume. Wholesale dispensary bags and pre-printed mylar bags are available for qualifying orders with consistent lead times and reliable supply.
After years of working with brands at every stage — from a first-time hemp grower packaging their first harvest to established edible companies rebranding their whole line — the answer is always the same: the best bag is the one that fits your product, meets your state's rules, and looks like you meant it.
The best mylar bag is the one that fits your product size, meets your state's compliance requirements, and looks good enough that your customer picks it up. Generic overseas bags might be cheaper per unit but they look it. At Creative Labz every design is created in-house — better quality control, better print finishes, and designs that actually stand out in a retail environment. Browse by size to find your fit, or call Zack at 843-457-0226 for a recommendation based on your specific product and brand.
We carry both — and they're designed to work together. Browse our pre-printed mylar bag catalog by size, then add matching strain labels, certification stickers, holographic seals, or tamper-evident labels from our labeling section. Anti-counterfeit QR code labels are also available for brands that want an extra layer of brand protection. Everything ships together so you can build a complete, retail-ready hemp or edible packaging setup in one order without dealing with multiple suppliers.
