Concentrate Packaging FAQs:

When purchasing or traveling with cannabis concentrates, you’ll need something to put it in. This is where the term concentrate container is coined from. Concentrate containers are used for the storage and sale of cannabis concentrates. At Creative Labz we carry a variety of glass jar sizes spanning from a 5mL glass jar, to a 3oz. Glass jar that can store up to an ounce (28g) of concentrate. Though there are silicone and plastic concentrate containers, the best type to use is glass. Glass concentrate containers are durable, non-porous, and smell proof. Our glass jars come with airtight child resistant lids that will meet all state compliance codes. These lids ensure that odors are maintained and that your extracts are not overexposed to the air. Overexposure to open air will degrade concentrates, causing them to lose potency and terpene flavor. The lids we carry all come with a foam liner that creates an airtight seal and prevents leaks.

Concentrate containers are made of either glass, plastic or silicone. Here at Creative Labz we recommend using a glass concentrate container as they are non-porous, smell proof, and can be made child resistant state compliant.

The most common ways to store wax and in concentrate containers, extract envelopes, and concentrate applicators.

  • Concentrate Container: Concentrate containers are made of either glass, plastic or silicone. Here at Creative Labz we recommend using a glass concentrate container as they are non-porous, smell proof, and can be made child resistant state compliant.
  • Extract Envelopes: These envelopes come in sizes of roughly 2”x3” and are a perfect fit for 1 gram of concentrate. They are often referred to as shatter envelopes as they are most commonly used for the storage of shatter, a flat, glass like form of cannabis concentrate.
  • Concentrate Applicator: A concentrate applicator is a syringe with a glass tip that has a specially designed tip to apply concentrates to pre-rolls, cannabis flower, or to dab from directly. Concentrate syringes are made from borosilicate glass and can withstand high heat making them a favorable packaging method among those who prefer concentrates. It is to be noted that concentrate applicators are used to package only certain consistencies of concentrate such as distillate.

A dab container is commonly called a concentrate container. Concentrate containers can be made of glass, plastic, or silicone. The best containers to keep your concentrates in are made of glass. At Creative Labz, we carry an array of glass concentrate jars in both clear and black. It is important to note that dabs can be stored in more than just containers; for example, concentrates are commonly stored in envelopes.

Dabs are commonly packaged in concentrate containers, extract envelopes, or concentrate applicators all depending on the consistency of the dabs. If your dabs are more of a crumble or diamond consistency, it is recommended to use a glass jar. Dabs that are “sappier” are best stored in concentrate applicators and extract envelopes. Lastly, dabs that have a glass like look and feel (shatter) are best stored in extract envelopes or glass concentrate containers.

Dab containers, also known as concentrate containers come in a variety of sizes. At Creative Labz we have containers that can fit anywhere from 1 gram to 28 grams (1 ounce) of concentrate.

  • 5mL Glass Jar: This jar is best suited to fit 1 gram of concentrate.
  • 7mL Glass Jar: Jars of this size comfortably fit 1gram to 1.75 grams (half eighth) of concentrate.
  • 15mL Glass Jar: Our 15mL concentrate containers are a popular choice as they can fit between 3.5 grams and 7 grams of cannabis extract.
  • 3oz. Glass Jar: 3oz glass jars are becoming the new wave when it comes to concentrate packaging! They are a great fit for 28 grams (1 ounce) of concentrate and have a wide enough side where they can be branded with labeling, while still allowing for consumers to see the product in size.

At Creative Labz we carry a 3oz glass jar that is a great fit for an ounce (28 grams) of concentrate.

Shatter can be stored in a glass jar! Glass jars are the most widely used form of concentrate packaging and shatter is just one of the consistencies of extracts that can be stored in them. With a dab tool, one will easily be able to remove the shatter from the glass jar.

Concentrates should be easy to remove from their containers making it important to shop for jars that are specifically for concentrates. When someone references a time when they had issue with removing concentrate out of the container, they most likely were using a jar that was not for cannabis extracts. Proper jars will be child resistant, smell proof, and will have full access to the bottom of the jar. Concentrate containers will have domed interiors that allow for dab tools to easily scrape all of the product out of the jar.

Separating dabs comes down to the consistency of the product. For most consistencies, a dab tool will properly separate your concentrate up into the desired portion whether it be for personal use, or in preparation to be packaged. Shatter on the other hand has a different way of being broken down. Breaking it apart for personal use is fairly straightforward, use a dab tool to separate off your desired piece. When separating a large amount of shatter, we recommend placing it in the freezer for 15-20 seconds or so. By doing this the shatter will become more brittle and stable (meaning it can be handled without being as sticky). Once brittle, place the shatter between two large pieces of parchment paper and lightly break apart the concentrate mass. WARNING: Be careful when packaging shatter! If it falls from any height it will shatter like glass leaving a sticky mess that will be with you for months to come.
